Who may use the database
Low resolution images are available for use for any non commercial purpose. To protect against commercial exploitation, higher resolution copies are protected by a username and password security system. Registered users may download higher resolution copies of an image, by entering the same username and password issued to them by the Image Library. All images must be accompanied by the appropriate credit line.

Searching the Image Library
The library may be searched by lung condition, country, region, year, image number and/or several key words.
A search may be refined by selecting more than one criterion. For example, selecting Nepal and 1997 will only bring images taken in Nepal during that year. Only countries and years with existing data are listed in the drop down menus. You can also undertake more specific searches by using the categories provided. All images have been labelled into one or more of these categories.

Search Results Found images that match the search criteria will be displayed as thumbnails on a results page. Thumbnails may either be stored directly to a lightbox by clicking “Add to light box” under each result or viewed more closely by clicking on the thumbnail to link to a larger copy.Clicking the “details” button under each thumbnail will also link to a larger version and its relevant details.

Downloading Images
There are several ways to download images from the image library.
To save only one thumbnail or low resolution image at a time simply right click the desired image and save it to a relevant folder on your computer.
If you would like to save two versions of an image together, say a thumb and a low resolution version; clicking each tick box situated under the low resolution copy can save them. By selecting both tick boxes and pressing download the image library will automatically zip these images together for you. The zipped images may be saved by following the directions given by your web browser.
Thumbnails and light images may also be saved to your personal lightboxes.
High resolution images are accessible only to those with a valid user name and password. High resolution images may be downloaded from either the high resolution page or by clicking the download high resolution button situated with the other download links on the low resolution image page.

Using the Lightbox

A lightbox is a storage container that remembers your selected images. You can add images to a lightbox, remove them, and download the whole lightbox content to your computer for later use or to share with someone else.
Lightboxes are designed to help you keep track of images you would like to use in your projects. When you find an image in the library that is of interest to you, you can save it to one of your lightboxes, and continue searching.
To add an image to a lightbox, you must first select one of your lightboxes. To do so, go to the bottom of the results page and either select an existing lightbox or create a new one. Then, simply click the “Add to lightbox” option situated under each thumbnail result you would like to add.
Images may be downloaded from a lightbox either as a thumbnail, low resolution image or both depending on your needs. Simply click the tick boxes provided and then click download. This action will zip and save the selected versions of the images stored in your lightbox to a selected folder on your computer.??You will need to use an unzip tool to extract the compressed images.
Your lightbox is automatically saved onto a server for 90 days and will be accessible next time you use the image library if your browser supports cookies. A maximum of sixty images may be stored in each lightbox, yet the number of lightboxes you can create is limitless.
